The salesman told me that he had some 2 1/2 inch x 2 1/2 inch x 3/16th angle that was a second. He told me that the steel was structurally sound. When determining the Bar Bending Schedule for Foundation you estimate the amount of Steel require i.e No. of Bar for each member and you must know the total No. of members for each of the bar shapes. Chapter 14:Fabrication & Repair Tips Metal Arts PressTo make these mitered and bent corners, begin by setting the bend-allowance gap to slightly less than the thickness of the angle iron and go from there. This method only works if corners are bent by machine. Heating the corners and manually freehand bending them will produce rounded cornersand scrap. Figure 14-2. Metal Angles, Angle Irons, Stainless Steel Angle, Aluminum About Angles, Angle Irons & V-Shapes. Roll Formed Metal Angles are the most basic of all Roll Formed Profiles. Tooling required is simple, and inexpensive to setup. For 90 degree leg angles, tooling is always existing, up to 4" O.D. leg height using up to a 3/16" maximum thickness, and up to a 9" O.D. leg height using a .075" maximum thickness.

Steel allows longer spans to be built, which limits impact on habitats below. Steel bridges are generally safer to build and less likely to fail. Steel structures can be visually lighter and more attractive than other bridge types. Bending these longs can be a bitch because the average rectangular section, 1/4 x 1 1/2 or so, simply doesnt want to bend fair. Ship construction and some yacht builders uses angle or T section for the longs and that works for pleasures boats but it has some disadvantages to balance against how easy they bend.
